This Friday, something extraordinary is about to happen. Two women, Capt. Kristen Griest and 1st Lt. Shaye Haver, are expected to graduate from one of the toughest training programs in the army. Just 40% of the men who enter the Ranger School emerge with the right to wear the Ranger tab on their uniforms. Now, these amazing women will join them!
The incredibly rigorous leadership course includes an exhausting regimen of tests, including grueling physical training, swimming, long marches, parachuting, and mock patrols. It’s a landmark moment for the Ranger School, but these women are still barred under current Pentagon policy from entering into the combat positions that most rangers do, including the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. That is likely to change soon, however. The military is under a directive to open all combat jobs to women.
We look forward to that change. These women, and doubtless many others, are more than qualified to serve in whatever capacity our proud military has to offer. They have proven that they are exemplary.Whizzco
