This GivingTuesday, Make a Difference for Veterans in Need with Good Packs and Pet Packs

As nights grow colder and the challenges tougher for those living on the street, it’s the act of giving that kindles hope. This GivingTuesday, we have a unique opportunity to extend a helping hand to those who once bravely served our nation: our veterans.

Our Vet & Pet GivingTuesday campaign, in partnership with Greater Good Charities is not just about donations; it’s about showing gratitude and support to veterans and their loyal pets who face the harsh reality of homelessness.

The Stark Reality of Veteran Homelessness

Imagine serving your country, facing adversities most cannot fathom, only to find yourself without a home. This is the reality for nearly 40,000 veterans in the United States, reports VA Claims Insider, with veterans being twice as likely to become homeless compared to those who haven’t served.

In Texas, Florida and California, which have the highest populations of veterans, the situation is particularly dire. The cold truth is that these veterans, alongside their beloved pets, often lack the most basic essentials for warmth and comfort.

The Good Pack: A Beacon of Hope

Greater Good Charities understands the gravity of this issue and steps up to make a difference. At a recent Stand Down Event in Miami, the impact of their efforts was palpable. Over 100 Good Packs were distributed, each packed with survival essentials: a backpack, blanket, clothing, a reusable water bottle, hygiene kit, and more.

Each pack not only provided tangible aid but also a message of care and recognition for their sacrifices. Joy and gratitude were clear on the veterans’ faces after receiving the packs.

The Pet Pack: Ensuring No Companion Is Left Behind

For many veterans, their pets are more than companions; they are a source of emotional support and comfort. Unfortunately, veterans shelters often don’t allow pets which forces them to choose between their companion and a safe, warm bed.

Recognizing this bond, the Vet & Pet GivingTuesday campaign also offers Pet Packs. These include a functional pack, collapsible bowl, slip lead leash, pet toy, food, and treats. These packs ensure that the pets, often a veteran’s only family, are not forgotten in their time of need.

How You Can Help

Your donation provides a Good Pack to a veteran and their pet, but this contribution goes beyond the physical items — it’s a gesture of solidarity and appreciation for those who have fought for our freedom.

By participating in the Vet & Pet GivingTuesday campaign, you’re not just donating; you’re part of a community that values and respects our veterans’ sacrifices.

Additional Ways to Support Veterans on GivingTuesday

Alongside the Good Packs and Pet Packs initiative, Greater Good Charities offers several other meaningful opportunities to aid veterans in need:

1. Support a Veteran’s Therapy Dog: Veterans coping with PTSD often find solace in the companionship of therapy dogs. By donating items like treats, collapsible water bowls, and dog food, you can support these therapy dogs that play a crucial role in the well-being of their veteran owners.
2. Meals for Homeless Veterans: With a significant number of veterans facing unemployment and homelessness, providing nutritious meals is vital. Your contribution can help Greater Good Charities partner with organizations across the country to ensure these heroes have access to the nourishment they need.
3. Provide Clothing for At-Risk Veterans: The harsh reality of homelessness is even more daunting in the cold. Donating items such as gloves, hats, scarves, socks, and thermal shirts can offer warmth and comfort to veterans who are at risk of homelessness.
4. Help Homeless Americans and Their Pets: Many veterans rely on their pets for emotional support, yet face the dilemma of seeking shelter without them. Greater Good Charities’ program Rescue Rebuild focuses on retrofitting homeless shelters to accommodate pets, ensuring that no veteran has to choose between shelter and their loyal companion.
