A veteran ended up in the hospital after a car accident but he didn’t know how much he would lose.
It started when Air Force veteran Larry Peteet of Land O Lakes, Florida ended up in the hospital on October 16, 2018. He fainted while he was driving and crashed his car. First responders asked him what he wanted to have done with his white Labrador retriever, Sandy Girl while they were on the scene.
Peteet wanted them to leave the dog with his neighbor while he spent time in the hospital. A policeman told him that they went to his neighbors and dropped off Sandy. Everything seemed fine and the veteran did not worry about his dog.
After Peteet was discharged three days later, he went to pick up Sandy at his neighbor’s house. The problem was, the dog was not there.
In addition, the neighbor didn’t know anything about Sandy or her whereabouts. Peteet started to wonder if there was some confusion over which neighbor was watching his dog.
The police were called and they eventually found out that Sandy was given to someone with a black Labrador at a local dog park. That neighbor didn’t know that the dog belonged to Peteet.
“She’s my baby girl, the love of my life,” said the veteran, who has post-traumatic stress disorder. “I love her more than anything. So, it’s horrible.”
At this point, the veteran didn’t know if his furry friend was alive or not so he started searching.
“Sandy is my emotional support,” he said, emphasizing how important his dog is to him. “She’s the only reason when I get down that I care about anything. She’s my lifeline.”
Missing dog flyers were hung by the veteran throughout the local area and a police report was filed. He also went to Jamie Katz, a pet detective.

It took some time but the pet detective was eventually contacted by someone who claimed that he was given the dog. He was told at the time that the Labrador was abandoned.
Peteet met up with the man and when he saw Sandy, he knew right away he was looking at his dog. She was also excited to see him.

It’s always nice when you hear of a happy ending when something distressful happens. I’m sure that Sandy is getting plenty of belly rubs after the reunion.Whizzco
