Remembering Our Fallen Brothers-In-Arms
Memorial Day is a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the brave men and women of the military who laid down their lives in service of their country. These fallen heroes willing sacrificed themselves — their life, their future, their loved ones — so that the rest of the country could live in safety and freedom.
This time to remember the fallen is perhaps felt strongest by veterans, those who served side by side with their brothers- and sisters-in-arms. The went off to war together. Some never came back. For those who did come home, Memorial Day is especially important and extremely personal.
The video below is a Memorial Day tribute by veterans at Black Rifle Coffee Company, a veteran-owned and operated coffee business founded by former Army Special Forces Operator, Evan Hafer. It is a tribute by veterans and for veterans, but the message is something that every American should take to heart this Memorial Day and keep in mind every day of the year.
For a veteran, serving side by side with fellow men and women of the Armed Forces creates a bond like nothing else. It surpasses friendship and becomes its own type of family, something that can only be termed as camaraderie and can only be truly understood by those who have lived it. They put their lives in each others’ hands, often experience the worst and best of life, and they go through it all together.
Memorial Day must be a time to remember the sacrifice that was made by those who gave their lives for their country. It must also be a time to remember what they gave their lives for — and in that we are able to keep their memory alive, carry on in their absence, and live a full life in their honor.
“It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain…,” Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address.
We will never forget the fallen ones who sacrificed their lives to protect our country and our freedom. For veterans, Memorial Day is an even more personal, solemn time to remember brothers they lost.
Their sacrifice was not in vain. They will never be forgotten.
