In Memory of Those Who Were Lost on the USS Cole

On October 12, 2000, the USS Cole (DDG-67) was docked in Aden, Yemen being refueled when it was attacked by Al-Qaeda on a small boat covered in explosives. Sadly, the attack proved to be successful.

The Cole was struck amidships on the port side and the damage was extensive. The part of the ship that was damaged was near one of the sleeping quarters. Seventeen sailors were killed and 39 were wounded, while their shipmates undertook heroic efforts to save both the wounded and their ship.

This attack happened some months before the events of 9/11. It was a precursor to what was going to become the nation’s worst attack since Pearl Harbor.

This video is a powerful tribute to the USS Cole and her heroic sailors. It remembers those who fell that day. Watch and remember the sacrifices of those sailors, both men and women who fell, those who were wounded and those who fought the good fight on behalf of their shipmates and their ship.

We at the Veterans Site honor their memory and promise to never forget. We express our sorrow and our respect to all those who were involved that day. We wish also to offer our condolences to the families. We remember and will never forget the sacrifices of your sons and daughters.
