This morning I was searching around for a topic for an article, and I happened across this video. I found it to be one of the most informative and intimately revealing pieces I’ve run across on the daily realities of a USCG Station. I think you will find it as fascinating as I did.
The narrator can be a little awkward at times, but he really gets to the heart of what the typical Coast Guard Station and area command looks like on an average day.
The first thing that will come across is the complexity of responsibilities these Coast Guard personnel deal with every day. But more importantly, what came across in a very intimate, personal way, is the character, intelligence, discipline, and humanity of the Coast Guard officers and enlisted that you will see in this video. You can tell immediately that they are immensely capable in their duties and that they are all imbued with a real sense of their role in serving others, particularly those in need.
This video really is focused on one of the 11 areas/duties that the USCG is responsible for, that is, Search and Rescue. You will get a very clear sense of the complexities involved in Coast Guard Search and Rescue, from the initial way that the phone is answered and handled to the thinking, planning, and execution, if necessary, in a potential search and rescue mission.
In short, you will come away from this video with not just a better understanding of the United States Coast Guard but with a deep appreciation for the quality and character of our USCG personnel. These are impressive individuals.
Enjoy this video. There are apparently others done by this narrator that you can watch too.
