Heard of the Swicks? They’re the Navy’s Secret Fighting Force

You probably have a fairly good idea about what the Navy SEALs are, but you most likely have never heard about this Navy specialty—in certain circumstances, the Navy SEAL’s best friend and support. They are the Navy’s Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crews (SWCCs) and they are the Navy’s best-kept secret. They call themselves, “Swicks.”

The men who serve in this unit are highly skilled, dedicated, and extremely effective at what they do. They are a small unit of highly trained warriors who operate high-speed attack boats that can patrol rivers and coastal waters anywhere in the world. Their lineage can be traced back to the PT boats of WWII and to the “swift boats” of the Vietnam era. Their primary purpose is to insert and extract SEAL teams and other Special Operations teams. They can do this with both great speed and incredible firepower. These specially designed, fast boats, are armed with the standard M240 light machine gun, a heavy M2 .50 caliber machine gun, and the M134 Minigun, which is belt fed and can fire up to 6,000 rounds per minute.

While the SEALs have become well-known in recent years for their small unit, anti-terror fighting skills, most have never heard about the SWCCs. To civilians, the “Swicks” are OK with that. They consider themselves the quiet professionals. They are dedicated to their duties and intensely skilled at their jobs. They operate in environments where everything is up-close-and-personal and demands well-honed skills and abilities.

The video will give you a clear insight into what these “Swicks” can do. While we may not know much about them, we can be assured that those who wish to do us harm around the world will not like “getting to know” them at any time.

The Veteran Site offers its respect for the men who serve in this small, elite group of Sailors. Though we all wish that such skills would no longer be needed, we are assured that there are men like these who have the courage and the skills to take the fight to those who wish us harm.
