Capt. Sarah Kociuba: Pilot of the B-2 Spirit Bomber in the Super Bowl Flyover

I wrote recently about the uniqueness of the upcoming Super Bowl’s flyover event. It will be the first time that three of the Air Force’s premier bombers will fly in tandem over the Tampa Bay stadium before the beginning of the game. The three bombers are going to be a B-2 Spirit, a B-1B, and a B-52. But I just found this video about one of the pilots that will be flying one of those bombers.

The pilot of the alien-looking, super sleek, stealthy, B-2 Spirit bomber that will take flight this coming weekend will be Capt. Sarah Kociuba. This is no simple task either. As I indicated in the earlier article, the bombers will be taking off from three different states and will rendezvous out over the Gulf Coast. Then flying at 250-300 mph, they will time their flyover to coincide with the last notes of the national anthem and roar over the stadium in a formation that few have ever seen before.

In this video, Captain Kociuba gives some of the details of what her end of the sortie will look like. She will be flying for 7-9 hours on this mission. After the flyover, she and the other bombers will meet up with tankers to fuel up for the remainder of their mission and return to their home bases.

Most of us will have to witness this on our television screens, but those who will be lucky enough to be there in the stands, like the 7,500 health workers who have been given free tickets to attend the game, will not only see that unique sight but hear it in full-throated sound. I can imagine that it will be a stirring, heart-pounding event.

We say to Capt. Sarah Kociuba and the other pilots: Fly High and enjoy the view. You will be giving us all a real thrill.
