13-Year-Old Ryan Forbes Has His Wish Come True: To Be a United States Marine

In January, Thirteen-year-old Ryan Forbes was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a fast-growing, high-grade tumor of the brain. The diagnosis, however, hasn’t slowed Ryan’s fascination with the military. He researches each branch. He learns the names of several weapons. He envisions himself in boot camp. These are normal activities for all that see themselves going into the military. That is what Ryan thought would be in his future until his recent diagnosis.

On May 13th, with help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the United States Marines of Lima Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Ryan was able to live his dream for a day. As an honorary Marine, Ryan was able to experience the delicacies of MREs, as well as speak over the radio to fellow marines. He also fired a Howitzer. Yes a Howitzer!
