Film — or any other kind of art form — is created, or performed, in order to understand something or express emotion about something.
Needless to say, the Vietnam War was a confusing time for many, if not all, Americans during the 1960s and 1970s. Because of the various changing pieces of the war, and the hard, sometimes bitter, feelings Americans have about this part in our history, it is not surprising that there have been a lot of films made about The Vietnam War.
According to History Today writer Michael Paris, part of the reason so many Vietnam War movies have been made is because, unlike war movies before it, the “lost illusions and gung-ho patriotism have both featured prominently in Hollywood’s reaction to the Vietnam War.”
But which one is the best? When we talk about Vietnam War movies, we are talking about fictionalized films, not documentaries. Is there one you feel, not only is an amazing movie, but also captures the feeling/atmosphere of those days perfectly?
