Retired Soldier Gets To Adopt His Old K-9 Partner After A Year Apart

Ask any soldier that has ever worked with a dog and they will tell you that it is one of the closest bonds you could possibly form as a human.

Nobody knows this better than retired Tech Sergeant David Simpson, who had to leave his post as a result of a medical issue.

While Simpson was in Iraq, he got very close to Robbie, a German Shepherd. Robbie was a military dog and the two of them would work very closely with each other performing security checks and patrolling the area.

Although Simpson had to retire for medical reasons, Robbie was still very active in the military. He was on active duty at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, so the two of them had to part ways and say goodbye.

In speaking with FOX13, Simpson said that it’s probably one of the most difficult things a soldier has to do, aside from having a dog partner pass away. He spoke about how heartbreaking it was to say goodbye to a dog because you never know if the dog understands.

A year after Simpson and Robbie parted ways in Iraq, they were able to reunite again. Simpson received a message that Robbie was about to retire, and he knew right away that he had to head to Germany and meet up with the dog.

He said: “My goal for him is to allow him to have as much fun and relaxation for the rest of his life. I just want him to enjoy his retirement.”

Since that time, the two of them have come back to the United States together and Robbie is now part of his family, along with his three children.
