Sometimes it’s the smallest acts of kindness that make the most impact. For Lyle Chauvin, that moment happened in a restaurant in Arnaudville, Louisiana, where he was enjoying one final meal with his family.
The elderly man had received news that he was ill, but the worst part came when he was told that there wasn’t much time left for him. One of his final wishes was to enjoy a meal with his loved ones at his favorite restaurant, The Little Big Cup.
While he was at the restaurant, the employees quickly learned the reason for why he was there. Moved by his story, the employees wanted to do something nice for him. That is when they decided to sing “Amazing Grace” for him as he waited for his food.
The restaurant owner, Sanjay Maharaj, posted to their Facebook page, “I’m blown away. Mr. Chauvin is dying and he wanted one of his last meals at The Little Big Cup. Our employees and guests joined his family celebrating his wonderful life.”
In the video, the employees really bring out their best harmonies as they sing to the elderly man. Lyle and his wife are immediately moved to tears. They both expressed their affections for one another by reaching across the table in order to hold each other’s hand – such a touching thing to behold.
By the end of the video, there is not a single dry eye in the room. Adding to the emotion of the moment, the entire restaurant and their patrons had joined in the signing. All Lyle could do was to wave to the entire place in order to express his appreciation.
Sanjay said that video was a perfect example of how the community came come together. In his post, he said that his restaurant is “honored” to be an establishment that helps to celebrate all of life’s ups and downs – including Lyle’s.
The former veteran has since passed away, but at least his family will forever have the memory of their special meal together.
His daughter commented on Sanjay’s post, saying, “My heart was so overwhelmed at the incredible honor and respect, that you showed my father. Thank you to you all, at the The Little Big Cup for this beautiful memory of this most special day.”
