When the photo was first shared online, no one knew who the man was, but the image quickly went viral. Cobos did what the Army trained him to do — protect innocent lives from terrorists like Paddock. In complete contrast, Paddock showed no regard for innocence or human life as he fired thousands of rounds of ammunition into the crowd of 22,000 music fans below.

After shielding her with his own body, Cobos led the woman behind a nearby car where they sought protection from the unrelenting gunfire. He then went to work helping other injured victims, using his belt as a tourniquet and even used his fingers to plug bullet holes in order to stop bleeding. When duty called, Cobos proved himself as a true hero.

After the shooting at the country music concert, Cobos said he heard bullets ricocheting off the ground around him. The shooter was aiming right at him, but the soldier managed to evade the gunfire and survived the tragedy safely — helping others survive as well.
