The New Fast-Attack Submarine USS Oregon SSN 793 Is Commissioned

The United States Navy recently commissioned its newest fast-attack submarine at the Navy Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. This video will introduce you to this new boat and give you an insight into its mind-boggling variety of capabilities. The technologies and tools available to the U.S. military today are simply astounding.

Some brief details here. She can dive to depths greater than 800 ft. and move at speeds in excess of 25 knots submerged.

The USS Oregon is designed to seek and destroy both enemy subs and surface warships. But she is also designed to insert special forces units, i.e. Navy Seals, etc. ashore. The Oregon will be capable of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and even reconnaissance, both at sea and ashore. She will also sweep for mines.

The USS Oregon is a nuclear-powered attack submarine, 377 feet in length with a 34-ft. beam and can carry a crew of 136 officers and sailors, who are probably the most highly trained, disciplined and technologically advanced sailors in history.
