Marine Corps Super Bowl Commercial You Might Have Missed

If you watched Super Bowl LII on television, you probably missed seeing the first Super Bowl commercial by the United States Marine Corps in 30 years. That’s because the Corps only ran their new ad online for viewers using online streaming devices. The ad, in the video below, was nothing short of amazing and should be seen by everyone!

The Marine Corps chose to run the commercial strictly online in order to target a younger demographic of men and women, who are increasingly using online streaming platforms for television and entertainment over traditional cable or satellite providers.

“I’m not trying to enlist fathers or mothers, I’m trying to enlist 18- to 24-year-olds,” said Maj. Gen. Paul Kennedy, head of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command. “And they tend to be cord cutters. They take in entertainment differently and they tend to do it on a device rather than a television.”

Since the commercial only ran on streaming platforms, the Marine Corps was able to save nearly 85 percent over paying for a television broadcast commercial slot, while at the same time reaching more of the target audience.

“It’s not just the ships, the armor, or the aircraft. It’s something more. It’s the will to fight and determination to win found inside each and every Marine that answers a nation’s call,” says the commercial, featuring battle scenes with Marines arriving by tanks, ships, and aircraft.

The visuals in the commercial — which you’ll have to see for yourself in the video below — are nothing short of epic. Of course, that’s just what one would expect from the United States Marine Corps.

“This ad talks to the fighting spirit of young people that have come up through high school,” Kennedy told Military Times. “We want young, tough, smart warriors that want to continue to seek challenges, and we’re seeking them from men and women from all walks of life.”

According to Military Times, recruitment is usually at its lowest for the Corps from February through May, since most high school seniors already have their plans settled for what to do after graduation. The online ad hopes to reach more young men and women who would be interested and willing to serve.
