Enlisting in the military isn’t an easy thing to do. Certain requirements must be met by the enlisting individual, but those requirements can vary depending on the branch. Required criteria shared across all branches, though, include:
- You must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
- You must be at least 17 years old (17-year old applicants require parental consent).
- You must (with very few exceptions) have a high school diploma.
- You must pass a physical medical exam
From there, differences lie in minimum scores for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude test, the amount of dependents, and also the maximum age. One requirement that never seems to make its way onto these lists is courage, from both the individual and his or her loved ones. Because that’s what enlisting in the military takes, above all else.
