High School Seniors Carried Casket Of Veteran Who Had No One To Attend His Funeral

Ralph Lambert, a retired United States Air Force veteran who served from 1950 to 1971, sadly passed away at the age of 94.

He didn’t have any friends or family to attend his funeral, but Menard High School’s baseball coach, Jordan Marks, came up with a great idea to make sure the veteran wouldn’t be alone.

“I picked the six seniors we have,” Marks told kalb. “I try to teach them the game of baseball but also the game of life, and anytime we can serve a community member or especially somebody that served for our country, we are more than happy to do it.”

Although the six seniors from the baseball team never met Lambert, they were honored to be a part of his funeral.

Ashton Veade, Cameron Kinder, Jacob Giordano, Jackson Ford, Ashton Brodnax and Hunter Foster carried Lambert’s casket with the American Flag draped over it before he was laid to rest at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetary.

Lambert was buried with full military honors, and was one of fourteen veterans with no known family members who were recently laid to rest in Louisiana.

“Today we will be their family. We will ensure that they are not alone,” the announcer said during the ceremony.

The majority of he veterans had served in Vietnam, while one fought in the Persian Gulf War. The oldest was 72 when they passed away and the youngest was just 60. One of the veterans who was just laid to rest passed away nearly ten years ago but sadly remained unclaimed all these years.
