Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), has gotten a lot of celebrity focus as a charity that supports those who have served our country. For the third year, celebrities fuel an online auction spearheaded by several big names. All names involved are donating famous items to raise money for the charity. Ben Stiller is taking the lead on this year’s HFOT.
Homes For Our Troops builds and donates custom homes for severely wounded veterans. When members of the military return to America, their lives are irrevocably changed. They return with emotional turmoil and sometimes physical injuries. In some cases, they may not have their old home to return to. When these occasions arise, HFOT moves in and relieves such burdens.
Big names draw big attention and funds
Not only do celebrities bring important items, but they also lend their name and fame to this cause. EBay hosts this online auction, and plenty of people are willing to purchase items at high prices because of the celebrity names involved. And while some interested buyers may closely follow charities dedicated to returning veterans, others hear about it through famous celebrities.
This Veterans Day, HFOT is receiving material from George Clooney, Jon Bon Jovi, Jake Tapper, Wynonna Judd and more. Bidding has begun already and ends November 17. Before that point, bidders can bid towards autographed scrubs from Grey’s Anatomy. If they are music aficionados, they can try for a guitar signed by Bon Jovi. Fans of Ryan Reynolds may want the spacesuit he wore in Life.
Homes For Our Troops wants to provide for those returning home
Housing for wounded veterans is vital, reports show. Different methods of housing exist, and each provides unique benefits.
People from multiple backgrounds are coming together for this event. “I’m excited to feature a few of my pieces in the Veterans Day Celebrity Auction on eBay this year, benefitting the nonprofit Homes For Our Troops,” said Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau.
Above all, not only does HFOT provide housing, but it customizes that housing to suit each veteran’s needs. This is in accordance with America’s laws guaranteeing accommodations for anyone with different needs. HFOT, eBay for Charity, and many more celebrities are working to encourage donors to dedicate their money to this cause. Many veterans today have seen various conflicts, from World War II to the cirsis in Syria. Above all, HFOT’s primary focus is housing for wounded post-9/11 veterans.
HFOT President Tom Landwermeyer is confident this year will yield big results. “Partnering with big-name celebrities and public figures helps us place a spotlight on the critical need of adapted housing for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans.”
Thank you to all who help make events like this possible! And a huge thank you to our veterans for their service!
