In case you haven’t been a child in the past 110 years, you probably know and have had Tootsie Rolls. They are a chocolate-like, taffy-like candy that has been manufactured in the United States since 1907.

Because they have been around so long, they have played a part in American History. However, did you know that played a part in our Korean War history?

A group of ingenious soldiers turned a misfortune into a blessing, as they used an accidental shipment of Tootsie Roll candies as food to survive in freezing weather, according to Tootsie.

The soldiers also discovered that they could use the candies to prolong the life span of their weapons, according to Inc.
