Female Veterans Missing Out On Veterans’ Benefits – This Organization Is Trying To Help

A huge subset of veterans — women — aren’t taking full advantage of their benefits. Sadly, many women who served in the military don’t even consider themselves veterans, as they didn’t serve outside of the United States or in combat. Others don’t know where to go to find a comprehensive list of the services available to them. The nonprofit Women Veterans Alliance has made it their mission to remedy these issues. The organization serves female veterans’ needs in California. This organization helps to unite women with all the benefits they have earned by serving in the military. In 2016 the organization began hosting a One Stop event on the fourth Thursday of every month, where female-identified veterans can attend workshops that detail all the benefits they are entitled to. These events consolidate many resources in one place so that attendees can have all the information they need at their fingertips.image223

The nonprofit provides a wide array of topics at these One Stop workshops, including Education Benefits, Financial Coaching, Mental health, VA Benefits, Legal, Starting a Business, Careers, Housing and Clothing Closet. Depending on the month, there are also special workshops such as VA Education Benefits or Home Buying Using Your VA Loan Guarantee. Any woman veteran can attend the workshops as long as she has some form of identification.

The Women Veterans Alliance doesn’t stop at the monthly One Stop event. Other resources include an online list of veteran benefits in California, regular community events and inspiring blog posts designed to bring women veterans together. The Women Veterans Alliance is an incredible opportunity for female veterans who find themselves needing a community and support after separating from the service.

Even though the nonprofit does great work for the women of California, veterans in other states could use an organization to help them understand their benefits and resources in one place. Those interested in supporting women veterans can read more about them here.
