Advice from 90-Year-Old Navy Veteran

Maxine Bodman is a Navy veteran with a passion for sports. At the age of 90 (and only a couple of months away from 91), she won the gold medal in shuffleboard at the 30th National Veterans Golden Age Games in Detroit, held July 10th through the 14th.

Bodman has been participating in these games for 14 years and plans to continue as long as she “can put one foot in front of the other.”

“You want to win. You strive to win. But if you don’t win, you have to be nice, polite, and say congratulations,” says Bodman. She adds, smiling, “I try to win.”

Bodman stresses the importance of staying active no matter what phase of life you’re in.
